Obituary for Clarence Norman "Bunk" Moon

Clarence Norman “Bunk” Moon passed away peacefully on December 19, 2018. Clarence, a native of Gadsden, Alabama, was born on February 3, 1934 to Lee Orren and Beecie Moon. An alum of Auburn University, Clarence was a loyal War Eagle and never missed an Iron Bowl.

Clarence served in the Army Signal Corps for two years during the Korean War. He worked a 38 year career as a safety engineer for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in loss prevention; although, his granddaughter believed for most of her childhood that he was a train engineer.

In his adult life, Clarence lived in Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania (go Steelers), and Massachusetts, but ultimately settled in the warm and hospitable south he knew and loved.

Clarence will be remembered for his work with The Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Church, the rides he gave his grandchildren on his “tractor,” and an insatiable appetite for books and donuts (not, necessarily, in that order).

He is survived by his wife, Rita Moon, five children, Kathleen, Chris, Mary, Suzanne, and Greg, and three grandchildren, Samantha, Sean, and Frelen. War Eagle!

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Georgia National Cemetery with Father Richard Vu officiating.
