Obituary for James Patrick Murray

James Patrick Murray went to be with Our Lord on May 3, 2019. He was 68 years old and passed quietly at his home in Six Mile, South Carolina, surrounded by his family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara, as well as his daughter Kacy (Michael) Richardson and his son Patrick (Lucy) Murray, both from Peachtree City, Ga. Also, his sister Karla (Steve) McArdle from Fort Wayne, Indiana. He has 4 grandchildren: Parks, Marlee, Finn, and James Patrick. Jim had a strong sense of family, and his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He was very close to all of his brothers and sisters in law, as well as his nieces and nephews. Jim was a supportive and loving influence for all of his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Erna Murray.

In 1969 Jim graduated from Bishop Luers High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was a three sport letterman, All City quarterback, and was awarded an appointment to the United States Naval Academy.
During his time at the Academy, Jim built many meaningful, life-long friendships. He
graduated the Naval Academy in 1973. Upon graduation, he service selected Navy Pilot and attended flight school in Pensacola, FL, Corpus Christi, TX, and Pax River, MD. Graduating at the top of his class, Jim chose to fly the P3-Orion. He served active duty until 1979 and retired from the Naval reserves in 1993, as a Commander. He was a commercial airline pilot from 1979 to 2015 where he worked as an instructor pilot and was promoted to APD for 16 years. During this time he flew for Eastern Airlines, Northwest Airlines, and Delta Airlines, from which he retired. He settled into life on Lake Keowee in Six Mile, South Carolina. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle church in Seneca, South Carolina.

Jim had many interests, which were mostly sports oriented. He was an excellent golfer, coach, and mentor to many. His enthusiasm and encouragement was contagious.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Carl J. Mowell and Son Funeral Home, 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, Georgia. The family will receive visitors at 10:30 AM, prior to the service. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society - www.cancer.org


A simple reception will be held afterwards at the home of Kacy and Michael Richardson.
