Obituary for Kermit E. Smith

Kermit E. Smith, of Hampton, GA, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on November 29, 2018, following a brief illness. Kermit was born to Hugh and Annie Moore Smith on July 13, 1939, and spent his childhood in Calhoun, GA. He achieved the designation of Eagle Scout as a young man and went on to graduate with a BBA from the University of Georgia. He met his wife of 55 years, Linda Hinson Smith, on campus while attending college and remained an avid UGA football fan all of his life.

Kermit was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve and was retired from BellSouth Advertising and Publishing Corporation after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Morrow, the American Legion, the Sons of the American Revolution, and Fayetteville First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Kermit E. Smith, Jr. and Stephen F. Smith; Stephen's wife, Trannie Adams Smith; two beloved grandchildren, Michael and Carolyn Smith; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ralph Edward Smith.

The family wishes to thank Southern Grace Hospice for the great blessing they were and help they provided. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Kermit's memory to Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, 175 E. Lanier Avenue, Fayetteville, GA 30214.
The Rev. John Barnes will officiate a graveside memorial service at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 5, at Riverside Cemetery, 1301 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA, in the North Gate section
