Obituary for Malcolm Dudley Thomas

Malcolm Dudley Thomas was a brave and courageous man who fought cancer with dignity and an unwavering optimism. On April 1, 2019, he yielded his body, but not his spirit, and left this earth. Cancer took his health, but his soul lives on among his many friends and family.

Dudley was a son, brother, husband, father and friend. He was a kind man with a beautiful heart. He shared his laughter, smiles and happiness with everyone he met in his short 61 years. He will be remembered for his life and the love he shared with everyone he knew.
Dudley was born in Florence, Alabama, on March 30, 1958. He was active in various sports as a young child, an outstanding athlete at Coffee High School and an avid Crimson Tide football fan. He received his engineering B.S. degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Dudley had a successful career as a software engineer, working for many different companies including IBM, and most recently with Panasonic Automotive in Peachtree City, Georgia. One of his greatest joys was spending time and playing golf with his beloved Peachtree City Golf Buddies.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Whitten Kicker; father, Davis Eugene “Gene” Thomas, Sr.; and father-in-law, William “Bill” Woldenberg. He leaves behind his devoted wife and life-long love, Jane Bryant Thomas (Franklin, TN); sons, Caleb Thomas (Chicago, IL) and Seth Thomas (Madison, AL); grandsons, Kamden and Gideon Thomas (Huntsville, AL); brother, Dave Thomas (LeAnn) of Madison, AL; sister, Laura Sandy (Keith), of Muscle Shoals, AL; mother-in-law, Lona Jane Woldenberg of Franklin, TN; and Jane’s sisters, Kim, Caroline and Becky.

A Celebration of Life Service will be planned for a future date. Memorials can be made to the Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association, PO Box 55071 #155301, Boston, Mass., 02205-5071 or ECAN/Esophageal Cancer Action Network, PO Box 243, Stevenson, Maryland, 21153.

To honor Dudley’s memory, his family requests that friends concerned about acid reflux or other esophageal issues see your doctor to be tested. Early detection and diagnosis is important to improve survival rate for esophageal cancer.

Jane thanks Dudley’s large circle of friends in Peachtree City and Florence for their unconditional love, support and for the joy they added to his life.
