Obituary for William Samuel Hooten, Jr.

William Samuel Hooten, 72, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, November 17, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, he and his wife of 44 years, Norma Jo (Whitton), have lived in Peachtree City, Georgia since 1991. Bill was the oldest of the four children of the late Dr. William Samuel Hooten and his wife Margaret Travis Hooten. Bill attended both Virginia Tech and Lynchburg College, ultimately attaining a Master’s Degree in Education. He was a US Navy veteran and served his country during the Viet-Nam era. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserve, rising to the rank of Chief. His love for nature and the outdoors combined with his teaching skills and love for his students, provided him the opportunity to inspire students in the fields of Biology and Anatomy/Physiology. He was a teacher in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Georgia. During the school years of 1989 through 2001, he taught at Fayette County High School and Landmark Christian Academy in Georgia, prior to retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stephen Gibson Hooten of Greenville, South Carolina and John Travis Hooten of Lynchburg, Virginia.

Survivors include his loving wife, (Norma) Jo Hooten; sister, Janet Paris Hooten (Michael) Coffey of St. Louis, Missouri. Other survivors include many beloved nieces and nephews.

In remembrance, the family will have a small gathering at a later date.
