Obituary for Wilbur "W.C." Cowles Spivey, Jr.

On the morning of May 25, 2019, Wilbur Cowles (“W.C.”) Spivey, Jr., 91, of Hampton went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. W.C. was born on October 16, 1927 to the late Callie George Spivey and Wilbur Cowles Spivey, Sr. He proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines.

Family gatherings always brought such joy and happiness to the Spivey home. W.C. was always quick to share a story about his precious family. He always had a love of music, but later in life, Bluegrass was his favorite style. He had a real talent on the guitar which he thankfully passed on to his sons.

W.C. loved working with his hands, building small and large projects alike. He was probably never more than 20 feet from a measuring tape, a hammer and some nails.

In the 1940’s, W.C. had a job as a weather strip mechanic. This eventually lead to him opening AAA Screen and Window in 1959 in southwest Atlanta. The doors still remain open to this day and is run by the Spivey family. Anyone who knew W.C. through his business, as a friend or neighbor, knew him as a man of integrity with a kind, gentle spirit.

As his health weakened, especially during the last two years, he moved to Azalea Estates Assisted Living in Fayetteville, GA. It was such a blessing to know he was so loved and cared for by his Azalea family.

Now W.C. is reunited with those in Christ who have gone on before him. The Spivey family yearns for the day when they will be gathered to our heavenly home, where we will forever worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But for now, he will be missed so very much by all those who have loved him.

W.C. was preceded in death by his wives, Frances Lucille Spivey and Mary Nell Spivey; his son, Michael Cowles Spivey; his sister, Lois Emily Williams; and his brother, Allen Alford Spivey. He is survived by his sons, James Edward Spivey (Sandra) of Mableton, and Charles David Spivey (Faith) of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law, Linda Spivey of Douglasville; stepdaughter, Deborah Jackson of Jacksonville, FL; numerous cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter..

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, May 30, 2019 in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Dr. Steve Owens officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family lovingly requests donations in W.C.’s memory to the Samaritan’s Purse for U.S. Disaster Relief, https://www.samaritanspurse.org.
